  1. I can almost guarantee you that if Transdev had to purchase the buses like they do in Europe, that they would be getting washed regularly. How much does it REALLY cost to use the bus wash versus corrosion and road usage taking their toll on AN INVESTMENT?  Yes, you read that right -- If there's the Fed "guideline" of 12 years service, why doesn't King Edward ensure that the bus investment lasts that long, especially since washing is the least costliest of PM?  And I would think that, being the "suburbs" and how ooh-la-la Nassau is versus the dirty "city", that it would almost be expected that buses look clean and pristine while traversing the county.  (Sarcasm there, ICYMI.)

MTA quite obviously washes their buses completely, rather than a wheel brush job, judging by all the pictures members here post, but somehow NICE can't do the same?  With a MUCH smaller fleet?  If NICE can't do something so basic with their maintenance budget, you have to wonder if Eddie's stipend will ensure these new buses last the total years of the investment.  In other words, taxpayers are getting screwed, yet again.

NICE has instagram posts of buses being washed.

  2. I was comparing after if NICE/SCT eliminate of low-ridership buses, school bus strikes happens, they will have harder commutes and student eeds wouldn't make to school b/c they cannot afford taxis and parent canot drive them to work.

Problem is that Students wouldn't have take Public Transportation.  I mentioned this to you else where, back in the fall of 2003 Laidlaw's Center Moriches yard went on strike for a few days at the start of the school year. I was the ONLY HS student that took SCT to and from school. I know this because the bus driver asked my why I was the only student to ride the bus.  Parents would either drive the students, they walk, or they car pool.

However like I said the strike was moot because it had nothing to do with the topic of NICE cuts.

Right, a lot of NYC residents don't understand that Long Island students either walk to school or get a ride.

  3. Service Change

    Posted: 10/22/2015 3:59PM

Due to signal problems at 7 Av, the following service changes and delays are in effect:

Northbound trains are running express from Church Av to Smith-9 Sts.

Northbound and trains are running with delays.

    Allow additional travel time.

I've been seeing this alert everyday. What's going on over there?

  4. I was about to say that but why run it on weekends?

Because during the week 71st Ave has a problem turning 2 trains with reasonable speed (They get backed up frequently). On the weekends it's just the (R) (which sucks) so it will increase local service and provide a great connection. I use the (G) when going to Brooklyn sometimes, and new Brooklyn Residents would have a one seat ride to Queens Center Mall. Even the MTA can't deny that ridership is increasing on the (G).

Due to police investigation of a customer injury at Parsons Blvd, southbound f.png trains are running express from Jamaica Av-179 St to Parsons Blvd.

    Allow additional travel time.

    Service Change  Posted: 10/14/2015 12:53PM

Due to rail condition at Court Sq, the following service changes are in effect:

Southbound e.png trains are running on the f.png from Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av to W 4 St-Washington Sq.

Metropolitan Av-bound m.png trains are runnning on the f.png line from Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av to 47-50 Sts-Rockefeller Ctr.

    Allow additional travel time.

    Jamaica Ave - 179th street? That's interesting.

  6. So today, I decided to take the N32 to Hempstead Transit Center, which took me an hour and then I catch the N6 to Hillside Av/179 st (F) . I did miss the N6x when the N32 was approaching the transit center. First time taking the N6 and it started to get crowded before reaching Belmont Race Track and after that, it just got really crowded.

Yes one of the busiest part of the N6 is from Cross Island Parkway to Elmont Road. This is probably why they don't really want to increase service when they know the Hempstead bound buses lighten up east of Elmont Road and the Westbound buses around Springfield Blvd. During rush hours to Jamaica sometimes the n6 goes by full and the n1 fills up picking up the slack . Some N1's have to flag stops on Hempstead Turnpike. This is why they should have left the N6 Limited alone.

The least they can do is make people move back and try not to flag anyone.

  7. The (7) would be useful for comic con, hope people know about 34th St.

There are at least a few hundred people that used the station to get to comic con.

Right now the station is hidden, you'd only know it was there if you already know about the station. They should have Big (7) signs pointing to the new station from the Javitz Center and perhaps advertise it inside the Javits center as a way to get back to other subway lines.

Well that is truly a shame that nothing was left anticipating future service. You didn't have to build the station but leave a cut out for it.

I always wonder how transpiration in New York City would be like if they actually built more subways lines in Queens and crosstown lines in Brooklyn and the Bronx.

The plans for Queens were amazing a Southern Jamaica line, a extended Hillside Ave Line. Horace Harding line, a Northern Blvd, and there were a few others like I believe even a Jewel Ave Line and a College Point Line. In my opinion the Bx12 SBS could have been a subway line. It took almost a century to start 2nd Ave line and I feel like we either won't be alive or old when the whole line is completed. I'm 18 years old and I believe they started in 2007 I was only 9. So if it takes about a decade to open 3 stations imagine how old I will be when they complete the whole line. I understand funding is not there but how many more people can you fit on a crowded (E) train that is always delayed on Queens Blvd during the morning rush? I never take the (E) going to Manhattan or anywhere unless I'm late. It is so bad now sometimes your body is touching the person in front of you or behind you. Boy them new subway lines would have been useful.

A Rockaway to Queen Blvd line would be awesome and I did notice the connectors that would have been used to connect the Queens Blvd Line between 67th and 63rd drive. I don't remember seeing the tracks branch off onto the actual turn off point.

    I'm done ranting carry on.

Edit: Forgot to reply to the last quote. Is EVERY car in the (E) full? Also, you could transfer to the (F) at Union Turnpike if the (E) is that bad.

  8. When the cuts start shifting westward, then things will heat up.  I don't think too many people need a bus east of Hicksville.

Well in western Nassau there are many places to take the bus to, especially places with lack of parking (Flushing, Jamaica, (7)(A)(E)(F)(J) subway stations). In eastern Nassau, it's quicker and more convenient to drive everywhere as opposed to waiting one hour for a bus, and most likely need one or two connections.

Most of the buses in western Nassau also run along commercial corridors, once you get past the Meadobrook Parkway many of the thru-roads aren't necessarily commercial. One example is Merrick Ave south of Stewart Ave (N51).  There's a shopping center here and there, but they're small and someone could get there and back home by car while someone would still be waiting at the bus stop for the first bus.

  9. They're actually indicating the severity of the delays. Not just "allow extra time" or whatever, lol.

    Delays  Posted: 10/01/2015  7:13PM

Following an earlier incident between 34 St-Hudson Yds and Flushing-Main St7.png service has resumed with extensive residual delays.

And this one has been up all day:

    Delays  Posted: 10/01/2015  6:21PM

Due to signal problems at Jay St-MetroTech, northbound a.png and c.png trains are running with delays.

    Allow additional travel time.

  10. I hated riding LIB with all my heart, believe me.

Right. With LIB buses broke down all the time, especially in the summer. I've been on several buses that have broken down and we had to wait for the next one to pick us up, IF there was room.

Buses were late, and sometimes there were missing runs.  The maintenance of these OLD buses comes down to how they were taken care of from the beginning under LIB. LIB had poor maintenance and their older fleet is showing the results of their poor maintenance.

Doesn't anyone remember when over 50% of MTA LONG ISLAND BUS buses failed inspection?

This article shows that it wasn't just LIB buses that the MTA failed to properly inspect/maintain:

DiNapoli: MTA failed to properly inspect buses: http://www.newsday.com/news/new-york/dinapoli-mta-failed-to-properly-inspect-buses-1.2642974

Then you have those like pinepower saying "just cough up the money". How about you write checks directly to NICE because it's just that easy to come up with tens of millions of dollars.  Lets not forget that the NICE is still offering more services for the amount of money that they receiving relative to LIB.

Also, essentially every year the MTA asks for more money and for more taxes and fees to be created for their coffers, but then there is an audit or investigation that reveals tens to hundreds of millions of dollars being wasted someway somehow.

This is just to add some perspective to these arguments.
