  1. so how does pushing a person cause the emergency brake to be pulled?

They could have been playing around and pulled it. Or... there could have been some idiot on the train that pulled it. <_<

One time I was on an (A) train where a fight broke out and someone pulled the cord, somehow they thought it was smart to pull the cord between stations during a fight.

  2. Some (E)s were sent to 2nd Ave, others ran via the (R) to Whitehall

    Makes Sense

Actually the best thing might be to send them to Brooklyn. Run them local

    To Euclid.

If they go to 2nd Ave or Whitehall then their running times are not lengthened by going to Euclid causing even more service issues.

  3. Other then those riders needing it to get to College, did those 12 people say or share any other info. Say like how many riders rode the route while they were one, how many people they have seen riding the route when a bus has gone by them, or how many people from the college actually rides the bus.

I mean just because (at least) 12 people ride the bus and need it doesn't mean it should be kept. It makes no sence to keep a route that they aren't at least breaking even on. So unless they can prove that data that the route actually breaks even and does better then other routes, there is nothing they can do. Nobody and I mean nobody is going to keep a route just because 12 people need it/ use it.

What they should be doing is going to the college and asking them to provide some type of transportation to some spot where these people could have access to better transportation. Or if not see if the college would pay Nassau for the service.

Yeah from their studies there are like 5 people per trip on the route. It's kind of wasteful to have to line running all day when there are about 12 (possibly) riders that use the bus to go to the school which is most likely only in the morning and afternoon. (The bus runs hourly anyway).   It's a small school they may not even have night classes. Perhaps they could modify the N80 to take a slight detour past the school or something.

They have the passenger counting system up and running so they KNOW just how many people get on and off by the school (and all other stops for that matter). I'd like to know their findings.

Nassau County Bus Transit Committee Meeting- November 19th, 3:00 pm , 6:00 pm

This meeting will be held at the Legislative Chamber, Theodore Roosevelt Executive & Legislative Building, 1550 Franklin Avenue, Mineola, NY 11501

In order to close a budget gap, a proposal to eliminate 8 of the smallest routes and raise cash and mobile fares by 25 cents will be suggested to the Bus Transit Committee during Public Hearing on Nov 19th. These routes will effect approximately 1% of our daily ridership.  In some cases, there may be some alternative bus routes for passengers. If the proposal is adopted by the Bus Transit Committee, fare increase would take effect on January 1, 2016. Service reductions would begin on January 17th

We are proposing that the following routes be eliminated due to very low ridership :
    n14, n17, n46, n50, n51, n62 (both routings), n73, n74, n80
-n19 trips will end at the Sunrise Mall and will not travel between the Mall and Babylon

For trips on the n46 in the central portion of the County, we are suggesting using the n47 from HTC to Newbridge Road
For n19 trips between the Sunrise Mall and Babylon, we are suggesting using SCT 20 route

  5. According to newsday.

n2/8 only operate during rush hour.

    n46 Bellmore village service can

    n14, n17, n50, n51, n62 and n80/81 buses will be eliminated.

Briafcliff Admissitrative and Students want n81 bus to be save because without n81 bus service, they cannot go to campus. Briafcliff College don't have shuttle bus and student will be forced to take taxi.

Majority of elderly and seniors citizen don't want n50/51 and n2/8 off-peak to be cut.

Newsday made two mistakes: It read n2/8 Peak direction to Jamaica and n17 Roosevelt Field-Rockville Cetre.

Just saw it on page that n73/74 and n19 Suffolk County segment will get discontinue.

How many people actually take the bus to Briarcliffe?

  6. How was it? What time did you got on? I was thinking of going to Hempstead Transit Center someday and hopefully to the ride the XN40 on the N6 but I bet 50/50 chance of an Orion Vll NG showing up.

It was fine, both times the bus was basically full so I was standing toward the front. I didn't get to try the seats, but the straps are cool.  other than that it doesn't feel that much different than the Orion Lowfloors

  7. Riders slashed on C train at Ralph Avenue in Bedford Stuyvesant

    http://www.amny.com/transit/nyc-subway-slashing-riders-attacked-on-c-train-in-bedford-stuyvesant-brooklyn-1.11054332

Two people were slashed on a Manhattan-bound C train Tuesday afternoon in Bedford Stuyvesant in a seemingly-random attack, authorities said.

A 30-year-old and 23-year-old man were both slashed on the left of their faces with a razor on the train near the Ralph Avenue station at about 3:50 p.m., police said. The suspect, a man in his 30s who was not immediately identified, fled but was caught four blocks away, by the intersection of Rockaway Avenue and Fulton Street.

The razor was recovered and charges were pending Tuesday.

The attack seemed to be random, police said, and the suspect did not know either of the victims.

The victims were both taken to Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center, police said.

The Manhattan-bound C train was running express from Broadway Junction to Hoyt-Schermerhorn. The Queens-bound train was bypassing the Ralph Avenue station.

    Geeze

  8. I can almost guarantee you that if Transdev had to purchase the buses like they do in Europe, that they would be getting washed regularly. How much does it REALLY cost to use the bus wash versus corrosion and road usage taking their toll on AN INVESTMENT?  Yes, you read that right -- If there's the Fed "guideline" of 12 years service, why doesn't King Edward ensure that the bus investment lasts that long, especially since washing is the least costliest of PM?  And I would think that, being the "suburbs" and how ooh-la-la Nassau is versus the dirty "city", that it would almost be expected that buses look clean and pristine while traversing the county.  (Sarcasm there, ICYMI.)

MTA quite obviously washes their buses completely, rather than a wheel brush job, judging by all the pictures members here post, but somehow NICE can't do the same?  With a MUCH smaller fleet?  If NICE can't do something so basic with their maintenance budget, you have to wonder if Eddie's stipend will ensure these new buses last the total years of the investment.  In other words, taxpayers are getting screwed, yet again.

NICE has instagram posts of buses being washed.

  9. I was comparing after if NICE/SCT eliminate of low-ridership buses, school bus strikes happens, they will have harder commutes and student eeds wouldn't make to school b/c they cannot afford taxis and parent canot drive them to work.

Problem is that Students wouldn't have take Public Transportation.  I mentioned this to you else where, back in the fall of 2003 Laidlaw's Center Moriches yard went on strike for a few days at the start of the school year. I was the ONLY HS student that took SCT to and from school. I know this because the bus driver asked my why I was the only student to ride the bus.  Parents would either drive the students, they walk, or they car pool.

However like I said the strike was moot because it had nothing to do with the topic of NICE cuts.

Right, a lot of NYC residents don't understand that Long Island students either walk to school or get a ride.

  10. Service Change

    Posted: 10/22/2015 3:59PM

Due to signal problems at 7 Av, the following service changes and delays are in effect:

Northbound trains are running express from Church Av to Smith-9 Sts.

Northbound and trains are running with delays.

    Allow additional travel time.

I've been seeing this alert everyday. What's going on over there?

  11. I was about to say that but why run it on weekends?

Because during the week 71st Ave has a problem turning 2 trains with reasonable speed (They get backed up frequently). On the weekends it's just the (R) (which sucks) so it will increase local service and provide a great connection. I use the (G) when going to Brooklyn sometimes, and new Brooklyn Residents would have a one seat ride to Queens Center Mall. Even the MTA can't deny that ridership is increasing on the (G).
