  1. I thoughtparody mmeant like similarly. ..thanks for the correction

Well yeah the s71 deadhead from Shirley is long although it goes all William Floyd Parkway to either Coram yard or Ronkonkoma yard (whichever it rest) and the s66 from Riverhead toRonkonkoma is very long almost like making a return trip to Patchogue. ..i would guess the s66 deadheading from Riverhead goes to take the 495 at Calverton

I guess that may be the other reason for the last s66 arriving Riverhead at 7:40pm to make a last run at 7:50pm...is to at least get some revenue from fare paying passengers as it heads to Patchogue and thus close to Ronkonkoma and would end up getting some money and not deadheading like i mentioned from Riverhead

Also the s58 arriving at 8:30pm should make a last run leaving at 8:45pm and arriving at Coram Plaza at 9:45pm and thusdeadheads to the depot of the aforementioned town name (Coram) since it isquite long to deadheads from East Northport to Coram with no revenue plus (likewise to said s66 leaving Riverhead at 7:40pm)

    Ahh, you mean "parity"

    Parody can have two meanings:

    1) an imitation of the style of a particular writer, artist, or genre with deliberate exaggeration for comic effect.

    2) an imitation or a version of something that falls far short of the real thing.

I would accept the word "parody" in DS4Ever's post context.

    LOL

Mango "found" some money and that's going to restore some of the cuts.  This stinks of something else, though.

Sure he did. He probably had the money but let the cuts go through so that they can seem like a savior.

I just hope that they use it wisely, and bring back routes which have caused connectivity issues.

    Right.

NICE has said they still had a $3M budget gap though - wouldn't this just go to fill the holes?

It probably should. But if they want to reinstate routes for political gain they'll probably reinstate something... until the next cut. For example, they brought back the N17 only to cut it later.

  2. Packed on Memorial Day and regular service on weekends, yes. But often on weekdays during the summer, the buses ran close to empty which has contributed to the cost.

Add in the fact that NICE doesn't have resources to have relief buses on the n88 anymore like Long Island Bus did on days like Memorial Day, and you have people who just stopped taking it and drive to the beach.

IF the n88 were to be eliminated, though concert service is already removed I believe (but from what I saw on here, they screwed that up anyway), they could always extend a couple of n40/41 or even n4 runs to the beach and see how that plays out. At least hound didn't say the n88 was next on the chopping block before the n33 and the n36.

Imagine if they had N4x buses go to Jones beach on weekends. (Since ridership is light during the week)

Maybe just back to the depot. Remember this is the same company that's having a lot of n70 buses deadhead to/from Melville (which is nowhere near a depot) instead of making a return trip. The same thing with the n45 in the PM rush going back to Roosevelt Field.

Yeah I see a lot of deadheading buses at times.  But why have N70 buses deadheading to Melville when they can return as a N70 or N72? Also, do they use the parkways for deadheading like the Q46 does?

  3. Their probably going to take their time, especially since someone from NICE had said in Newsday that if they were to get the money the cut routes could be reinstated. If they went right out an took all the signs down it would show that the cuts would be permanent and the person lied. (Not to mention wasteful if they were telling the truth and reinstated the routes if they got the money)

What they are probably doing is waiting for like a month or two or whenever they think they are sure they won't be getting any money to reinstate them or that riders forgot what they said and most likely have found other ways of getting around,

Or they could just say heck with it and just leave them up. Suffolk left a route sign up even though a route didn't serve it, not sure if it was an approved route change by the county also don't know if the sign is still up since they renovated the ambulance station the sign was on. Also Suffolk put up a bus sign a few years ago for a route that doesn't serve the stop, though again it goes towards that route change mentioned earlier. So it goes to show that route signs aren't seen as important.

At the hearing, Setzer said if they were to get more money it would be used for the busy routes where people get passed by full buses, etc.

  4. Back to NICE Bus, n20G line had longest line that strecht all the way to Rotary at Great Neck Station, so n20G/H is costly some people 30-45 minutes extra on their old n20 commute.

The snow screwed up all routes. On the N6 either all buses were headed to Jamaica, or all buses were headed to Hempstead. The split probably made the N20H on time. If the route wasn't split they'd have been waiting in Hicksville for like an an hour.

We all knew it wouldn't work. It's only driving their ridership down even more. NICE sucks more than ever.

What did the planners say when you all said it wouldn't work?

After elimination of n80/81 and n19 Suffolk County Segment, Sunrise Mall seems to be loosing business.

It's been losing business since Walmart left.
