Yep. You're getting older and becoming tired of the day-to-day BS that the subway entails. Welcome to my world.  After a long day in the office, I just want to get home without the panhandlers, crowds and everything else.

Yeah, I still use the subway in Manhattan  but the delays during trackwork hours are just so frustrating , I'd rather keep my sanity and just use the railroad.

For all of its faults, the LIRR never really had an extended period of deferred maintenance, so the LIRR doesn't have massive service changes the way that the subway does.

That being said, the LIRR is still a pretty terrible railroad, and it generally isn't available between 1-5.

I've experienced short delays on the LIRR of a couple mins or so, but not to the extent that I've experienced on the subway. The thing is once you've used it a few times you know your train times. The service gap between 1 and 5 depends on the line.

I believe the lack of passengers north of NCC was what caused NICE to reduce the n35 to hourly during weekday off midday. Ridership north of the college has been going down ever since the Source Mall died a slow and painful death. Before there were HTC-NCC shuttles to pick up the slack, but now it's not doing much. It's even more bizarre that the n35 got reduced to hourly north of Hempstead when it usually gets more people heading to Roosevelt Field and NCC than either the n15 or n16. I think what makes NICE terrible is how they focus too much on improving connections between lines without improving the schedule.

Midday the N15 follows the N35 route so maybe they find that to be redundant service.

I'm not trying to rip you to shreds - trust me - I live in astoria - the go's are annoying because it means if i'm late to work, I'm EXTRA late to work.

I just don't have any patience for the outlook that service changes are somehow inconvenient by design, that GO's are instituted in convey maximum spite. Frankly - this is a narcissistic position to take, it lies adjacent to the point of view where any hurdle on one's path is an intentional attack. I know too many people like that and if you think about it, you probably do as well.

None of us, individually or collectively are so important that powers at the transit agency want to give us the shaft. Nobody is sitting in the rail control center pleasuring themselves to the thought of those crowded trains in astoria. It isn't about me, it isn't about you, it's about trying to run a railroad.

Sometimes I wonder about that, when I'm subject to QBL trackwork after 10pm weekdays it feels like if any passenger dared to have a good day then NYCT wants to make sure it's completely destroyed before they get off the train.

  4. I've known that the n6x does not serve campus for the last few weeks. I was discussing how if they were to use artics to service NCC, NICE would likely have to interline the n16x trips with n6x trips that do utilize them so as to not spend more than absolutely needed...

Which means nothing for mid-day service (and more unreliable service during the rush on top of the current issues).

I was just noting what I noticed about the new schedule. As for the N16 couldn't they loop an Artic between campus and Hempsted?

  5. I haven't seen an artic in a while. I just checked the new schedule and it's interesting. (maybe, I'm late on this):

-The closest to midday that they run Artics on weekdays is about 3pm, but on Saturday they kinda run on a hourly basis all day.

    - Artics only run on the N6X on weekdays

-The "N6x" trips to NCC have been eliminated

  6. NICE really needs to do something about the loads coming to/from NCC during the class change times. The fact that every day, there are people having to wait an extra 30 minutes for an n16 or n35 to Hempstead because they couldn't fit on the bus is disgusting.

Is it full full, or is there room in the back? They had the N43 extension to Hempstead a couple of years ago but for some reason people didn't want to use it

  7. It's great. I use it a lot when I buy singles, which I started doing last year when I didn't buy monthly passes and switched back to taking the express bus. It's really helpful. I just buy tickets when I'm in the office or at home and it saves me from waiting in line or worst of all being hit up for money in Grand Central, not to mention the skimmers. I however still buy my monthly tickets from the machine, though I'm even considering doing that on the app too. The only thing for me is they don't sell the monthly passes on the app yet with the Hudson Raillink included so that's another reason why I still get monthly passes from the machine, but I rarely do that option unless my express bus usage is going to be really minimal (i.e. on weekends only).

One other thing that the MNRR version does is it allows you to split payments between two credit cards. I've considered trying that out for the hell of it, but haven't yet. Nice to have as an option though especially if your ticket is really expensive.

Yeah, the splitting tickets option sounds reasonable for people further north with the expensive tickets. Are the eTix and easy pay accounts linked?

  8. Certainly helpful in those last minute situations! i.e. if your coming from the D N R train to the LIRR at Atlantic.

Exactly. It says it has to be activated before boarding. Is that true? Can you board the train first and activate the ticket before the conductor comes?
