No it isn't. The switch wasn't working when I said it was down. It had nothing to do with keeping the 53rd Street switches in place.

lol if they're "not working" due to power problems then they have to stay in place and attempts to move them isn't a good idea . SOOO they left the (B) express so that all traffic to and from the express tracks go to 53rd street.

Weekdays where everything is running normal and fugimtation isn't bad at Forest Hills.

What I'm trying to say is that there was weekend construction last week on the express tracks. which made queens bound (E)(F) and (R) trains crawl like bugs, so since I didn't have anything to do after my internship program, I decided to go home but wanted to go home before 6:30. Though I should've ignored going to Lexington All together

That's cool, i was just making a QBL joke.

You're actually wrong on the (B) Train part. The switch to/from 6th Avenue connecting to the CPW Local tracks was actually down too during the incident which was why the (B) Train was running express.

Which is basically the same thing. The (B) train went express so they could (or because they had to) keep the 53rd street switches in place.

    ^interesting service change.

But why run the (A) via the (C) when you could just leave the (C) alone?

And the (A) and (B) are switched CPW with the (B)eing express and the (A) being local.

Shh. Don't try to bring logic into this.

The folks at Ops probably felt since the issue was isolated to 8th Avenue below the 59th Street junction, there was no need to impact 6th Avenue and Brighton service as well.

There is no "(A) via the (C)" especially since they run on the same corridor and the (C) is internally a short-turn (A). Also, it's pretty pointless to do so anyway when the (A) is already making all stops along its entire route.

They cut the (C) to reduce train trains through the area which the (A) can cover. I believe the (B) went express so that they could keep the CPW to 53rd st switches in place.

That's actually a reasonable unplanned service change.

The (A) still covers it's route, runs frequent enough during the rush to replace the CPW Locals

CPW Express keeps 2 routes to carry the bulk of riders, many uptown riders are going to 125th so they can go across the platform for the express at 59th or take the (E) to 7th Ave/53rd for the (B)(D) , or transfer at West 4th St for the (B)(D) . The (B) has capacity.

Those going to Washington Heights/Inwood can rejoin the (A) at 125th/145th after it deals with local riders, maybe passing a couple on the way uptown.

145th to 168th gets more service

  5. They should just extend the 6th Ave express tracks into Brooklyn and connect them to the Canarsie line west of Bedford Ave or route it along Metropolitan Ave and connect them west of Lorimer Street.  That way they can have train service across the river while the tunnels are being repaired, they can put switches east of 2nd Ave and use it as a Western Terminal. :)

"This is a Manhattan bound (L) train, the next stop is 2nd Ave /Houston Street, stand clear of the closing doors please"

Looking at the planned service changes for May, it seems like the first weekend after (M) service returns to normal, there's a G.O that says "Forest Hills-bound (M) and (R) trains run express from Jackson Heights to Forest Hills". I'm guessing there's a G.O missing That's knocking out (F) on QBL?

Look at the duration of the change. It's from 11:45PM to 12:30AM. No need to kill the (F) when frequencies are that low.

There are going to be delays (as usual) as all trains share the same track but (M) and (R) still terminate at 71st Ave and hold up the (E) and (F).

And a perfect example of this...there's a <7> that's been stuck on the Roosevelt Avenue bridge now for over 20 minutes waiting to enter Main Street.  No service advisories either about problems at Main Street.

This is part of the customer service problem. I'm sure the passengers didn't take a <7> only to be held up for 20+ mins getting to Main Street, especially when there are most likely locals passing by during that time. They could/would have switched at Junction Blvd or Willets Point if they knew the train was going to be held, many of them have to transfer to a bus!

LIRR quite honestly runs horrible reverse peak service. The entire railroad is geared primarily towards peak Penn Riders. However there are a few intra island riders, usually on the same branch (Mineola-Hicksville) (Hicksville to Ronk or Hunt.) (plenty of Nassau-Suffolk in general) However if it's on a different branch it's completely unusable Queens Village to New Hyde Park which will require that backtrack to Jamaica. Even getting to local stations are ridiculous sometimes, as some trains stop at one and the next one stop at the other (Carle Place, Westbury).

After I started riding the LIRR more frequently, I began to investigate intra-island trips, if you're not on the same branch it's just not feasible. Even trips like Valley Stream to Rockille Centre,  Floral Park to Mineola or Rosedale to Freeport generally requires a backtrack to Jamaica.

In your Example, someone would have to take the train from Queens Village to Stuart Manor and walk up or take the N25.

It costs $5.75-$6 off-peak to travel between Jamaica and Mineola/Hempstead/Freeport and Hicksville depending on the zone. That's pretty reasonable when compared to the $7.50 it costs to travel between Jamaica and Penn or Atlantic Terminal.

Yeah, that is pretty ridiculous. But on Metro North between Grand Central and 125th St, it's $8 peak, $6 off peak

5 hours ago, Via Garibaldi 8 said:

Off-peak... Peak prices are around $8.00 versus $4.00 intermediate fare at all times.

    Right.

    Peak / Off Peak

    Jamaica - Mineola/Hempstead/Freeport = $8 / $5.75

    Jamaica - Hicksville/Wantagh/Massepequa/Long Beach = $9.50 / $7

    Jamaica - Babylon/Deer Park/Huntington = $11.75/ $8.50

Obviously to deter ridership in Queens.  They should increase the intermediate fare in the Bronx. Far too low... Most people in Riverdale ride to and from Grand Central so we don't travel to the Bronx like that.

I mean between Bronx and Westchester. For example, Fordham to White Plains is $4, which is reasonable compared to say Jamaica to Mineola/Hempstead/Freeport or Hicksville

The two of you should ride the route and that would answer your question.

I've ridden the Q44 from end to end. But it was later at night. Other times it was only to Parkchester from Flushing because the Trip from Merrick to Van Wyck Blvd Station took forever, I vowed to just take the Q27 or Q17 to  Flushing to spare me the sanity.

There never was a Woodhaven LIRR station on the Main Line... We're talking about one that'd be along the Bypass where the LIRR ML crosses Woodhaven Boulevard. That area of the line has provisions for 6 tracks, so it'd just be a function of adding a platform.

That is a reasonable proposal. My original intention for the stop at 51st Ave was a future connection to Triboro RX, but the Q58 already exists and so a transfer should be established.

I assume you mean the former Rego Park LIRR stop. The 1970s proposal had no stops between Woodside and Forest Hills, and the subway tracks would be laid along the empty trackbeds north and south of the existing 4-track LIRR mainline (formerly for the Rockaway Branch). Since two new stations are needed, either the ROW needs to be widened or an elevated solution needs to be deployed. In either case, the non-underground stations would be significantly cheaper compared to say SAS.

Woodside is the problematic station, since the LIRR has 6 tracks, and so an underground stop is probably needed there, given that ESA is on the way and train traffic is expected to increase dramatically.

    Thanks, I meant Woodside

With the way the Woodhaven LIRR station is set up, where would the bypass fit?

I could see the Lower Montauk functioning similar to the Rockaway Line, except with higher ridership because of the influx of passengers at Jamaica. Stops at Flushing Ave (optional), Fresh Pond (Metropolitan Ave), Glendale (Cooper Ave), Ridgewood (Woodhaven Blvd), and Richmond Hiill (Lefferts Blvd). The issue is how to connect it to a line in Manhattan, since 63 St is too far away from LIC. More recent proposals have used the Lower Mantauk as part of a new NJ - Manhattan - LI line through Union City.

As for the QBL bypass, I believe the intention was to build the tracks south of the ROW using part of the space that was originally occupied by the southbound Rockaway Branch. The line would go underground at Sunnyside Yards.

Which path would the Bypass take to get under 71st Ave and how would they support the station during construction?

The Northern Blvd Station would be where the East Side Access portal currently is is? They might as well build the station shell now to save on costs.
