  1. and didnt the Q10A have only like one or two trips?
  2. The trucks are similar yes, but the M8s is more similar to the 160s just to railroad specs. The m7s are horrible indeed. A few years ago they removed the yaw bars which made the cars rock side to side more than the m7As. Now as far as the front of the m8s, thank Ceasar Vergara. He was he one who designed the exterior. I've been following his work for 20 years. He's worked on the X2000, MNR's Genesis engines, when he worked for njt, he designed he comet V's, alp46s,P42s, the bi levels, and tell exterior graphics for those cars, and the M8s. The plan for the m8s was to give them a fleet wide look while being distinguished as new Haven cars only. As for the M9s, I expect carbon copies of M7s. Like the 143s, 160s and upcoming 179s.
  3. With the majority of the old QBx1 buses just looping around co-op to pelham bay, it amazes me that the MTA took that long to finally split the route and basically kept the Q50 just as bad as the old QSC route. Just when you think theyre doing something smart.....
  4. There will be lay up tracks west of the 125th station, and north of the turn at 2nd Ave and 125th. If you go thru the documentation about sas on the mta website, they state what yards and lay ups trains will use.
  5. Here's one: something has got to be done about the western terminal route of the M21. 1) its not really used. 2) it delays runs due to Holland Tunnel traffic. I would propose it terminate at 6th and houston. It pretty much empties out at macdougal still. From there it can start west on houston for a left on varick st using the thru lanes avoiding most of the tunnels traffic, left on spring then regular route. It will impact the lest amout of regular riders and increase the on time reliability for west bound riders who usually don't start boarding till spring and 6th.
  6. I have yet to ride an R32 A this year. I was just on an r44 Charlie though. As far as the springs on the trucks-yellow or blue, it's just paint.
  7. I use to frequent the Q58. Youd be surprised how many people actually ride it from flushing to ridgewood. If you haven't noticed, the only really major change of the route over the years has been its relabeling from B58 to Q58. It's also one of the few routes left that not only has its history span back to its old streetcar route, but that route has almost gone practically unchanged. It has always ran from ridgewood to flushing.
  8. According to PIX11 the other day, it was reported that although a fare hike is coming, some cuts will be restored....including the B39. And that bus route was originally created as a feeder route between LES and the WillyB bus lanes to replace the old streetcar lines that served the old Essex trolley terminal. M15's into Brooklyn? Hitting that chronic a little hard are we? Lol
  9. The 14C and D always made me laugh. its only difference when i used to ride them was 4 blocks and one ave around Con-Ed. If you think about it, all they really did after that was eliminate the D and renamed the C to D! LOL To be honest, i currently wouldnt even use the 14A from work if i didnt have to wait 30 mins for a M21 and if it ran weekends.
  10. I've rode the A for over 20 years. Charlies being sent to Lefferts or the Rock due to equipment problems have always happened with every fleet they've ran. It's also happened due to police activity, passenger injury, etc.... Those situations don't state how often a type of car brakes down...... MDBF stats do.
  11. This was back during late 96-early 97. Before the test track there was built too.
  12. It's not really a newplatform behind the wall. It was always there just without the tiles.
  13. BTW, heres a few pics from friday at the 63rd/Lex station. I always knew that if SAS was ever built, the wall on the platform side was coming down, but i never expected the whole station to get gutted! The last remaining 'red' i could find at the time:
  14. Thats funny! i just started catching the 14A at Abingdon about two weeks ago since its a 5 min walk from my job (especially on the weekends with no crosstowns south of 14th) As it turns out, on the weekdays i always seem to catch the same 14A there that i would catch if i take to M8 to Ave A. and ive noticed the 2 D's, 1 A pattern for the last few years ever since the C got replaced by the D when it use to go A-C-D-A. all they did was replace the C with the D. And tom foolery is right! ill support a new Grand ST crosstown before a M14 extension to Penn.
  15. one major factor thats a pro about having ONIX is that its in-house designed. NYCT designed it specifically for NYCT equipment. No other propulsion within the fleet has that fact. Its also been tested. as was stated, basically half the fleet. and can be retrofitted into other fleets. An R38 was the test train for it.
  16. Nail in da coffin!!! Its bad enough that, as an M14A rider, we have to wait two 14D's on average to every 14A. But to add an extention, even "selected trips"( which the M14 as a whole basically runs on) to have it run north one mile to the commuter heart of midtown shows the high level of some shizznit thats being smoked by who ever suggested this.
  17. Actually no. I didnt know. Thanks for the info. And I agree. I'd rather ONIX as well.
  18. Actually...... The M15 was a candidate for SBS due to a lack of an east side subway. I use to go to H.S. in east midtown (57th and 2nd) and then after, worked in the East side (1st ave & 79th). Recently, i have been taking trips up and down the east side. Park ave, is the fastest ave in the east. Second ave is nortorious for traffic. especially between the 60s and upper 20s. You have the Ed Koch Bridge and the Qns-Midtown tunnel making traffic almost as bad as by the west side tunnels. then as you head towards Houston, traffic prepares for access to the Willie B.
  19. Yeah. Thats the concept pic for them. yeah, im expecting those trucks if they stay awarded to Bombardier. If you havent noticed with the NTT orders since the 142's, the trucks depend on the builder. heres a perfect example: Look at the trucks on a Bombardier-Built M7 Now look at the ones on the Kawasaki built M8. The M8's have a similar design to all the trucks on NYCT cars built by Kawasaki. on a side note, (insert "just an opinion based of fact please dont jump down my throad disclaimer here) I would not be surprised if the 179's get equipped with ONIX. System components can be "vendored" to other suppliers. The ONIX propulsion is NYCT in-house designed. They were originally tested on a set of R38s thru the Broad Channel flats in the late 90s. Its very possible that the Bombardier-built 179 can be supplied with ONIX if the MTA decides that the ONIX is the more preferable choice.
  20. It is. Thats the whole point of SAS. To relieve the Lex in Manhattan. You dont need express service, you dont need an extension to Bk.(yet), nor all of these reroutes, extra lines, etc. for success in anything to work out, theres a simple acronym for it K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple, Stupid) SAS in its initial construction in the 70's was to be a 70+ MPH line. STations are still spaced apart to allow high speed service for a longer stretch (unlike traditional local service) but access most UES neighborhoods without the need for the Lex.
  21. correct me if im wrong, but this past friday heading home from rockaway around 11pm, they began storing r46 C trains on the center tracks (similar to the winter whether plans) overnight. I hear this was to allow work in PItkin Yard over the weekend. If that is truley the case, could that be a prologue to the whole 207 to IRT/ Pitkin main A/C yard thing?
  22. on weekends you'll find full length Rock Pk Shuttle trains for the beach crowds. Lance, How is 207th/Pitkin not able to handle NTTs when every single set that arrives on the property a) gets received, connected into consists inspected, etc at 207th and then spends time at Pitkin for testing on the Broad Channel flats? How are the sets at Pitkin (for its short stay there) maintained during break/speed testing?
  23. I remember them when they ran regular vans. One thing i have noticed. The Beach Channel Drive vans dont run as often as they use to and end around 60th St. Shows you how long its been since ive used one
