  1. Techs on the 2 & 5 lines makes the most since cause of swapping trains between lines at Flatbush terminal. The 62As have a pretty good PA system, so the manual announcements are fine for now.
  2. Those FLA XD40s have the SBS scheme painted on them, that's why most of them are still in the SBS scheme even though they are not in SBS anymore. For those thinking about fanning the 40 footers on artic routes... the forecast is saying 17 inches of snow tomorrow. Bus service might get outright suspended along with above ground subway service, so keep that in mind to avoid being stranded far away from home. Constantly check NYCT Bus and NYCT twitter for updates if you go out fanning tomorrow. I went fanning in a blizzard once and all outdoor train service was suspended so I had to walk to Canarsie from the Liberty Ave stop, had to walk in the street too since nobody shoveled their sidewalks yet. Was quite an adventure.
  3. I wonder if BK div will give Manthattan div depot loans like they did in years past. Quill and the BX got loaners from SI and Queens but who will loan to 100th street depot..? Too bad FLA most likely will not loan out NGs to UP for B1 service, as last time the artics were pulled Ulmer had enough spare 40 footers to cover the B1 without loaners from other depots.
  4. As of the 4PM local newscast the weather forecasters don't even know where the storm will land once it reaches the east coast. So I doubt the MTA has a plan for a storm they don't know if it will hit NYC hard or not.
  5. On NJ Transit, you can use the app to buy light rail tickets and there's an three minute timer from when you activate until the ticket is active, perhaps OMNY will have an similar feature for SBS routes.
  6. Pre covid, I doubt the subway benches were any more dirty than the seats on the subway cars. Covid era I assume the benches get hosed down with a power wash machine when the subway is closed during the overnight hours.
  7. I don't remember the number of the Proterra I rode on the B47.
  8. They removed the bench on the N/B platform at Union Square on the Broadway line. Personally, I pissed about this cause I use to love sitting at that bench to wait for R68/A N/Q/W trains. I hate when they remove benches in the system, it's more comfortable to wait for the train sitting down, especially in the summer.
  9. At this point I'm assuming the wheel truing machine at CI Yard is broke. not too long ago damn near every R68A set had flat wheels, their much better now, probably SMS work. Those flat wheels must scare the crap out of bikers and Walkers on the Manhattan Bridge whenever those flat wheel sets travel over the bridge. The Pikin Yard R46s are still holding up pretty good, 45 years old and still the backbone of the longest line in the system, impressive!
  10. Not surprised the proterras at Septa are out due to structural issues. The ones the MTA have horrible ride quality, rode one on broadway on the B47 and that thing rattled so bad, few days later rode an NG on the same street and the ride was much smoother.
  11. Isn't the Port Jervis line pretty rural once you go past Suffern? Most rural areas in the U.S doesn't have local bus service. As for Putnam county, I guess there isn't any demand for a bus system there. Probably not densely populated enough to justify having one.
  12. Went for a walk today since today was an nice day for January. Anyway while walking down 14th street I seen two of the nine? old MCI's Yukon has on layover, serveral blocks apart, one of them had fanners photographing code breaks on the bus.
  13. That's funny as JG had an bus numbered 976 from the orginal order of C40s.
  14. There's really a order for only 25 40FT buses for MTA Bus? That's it? lol. All those OG hybrids in MTA Bus and they only order 25 new buses for MTA Bus. Looks like MTA Bus is gonna get a whole bunch of hand me down NGs from NYCT dumped on them, oh well, sucks for them.
  15. Beautiful train. Interesting that they put the controller in the middle again.. Not a fan of the reduced seating, I wish they kept the doors the same size as the R160s. Only bad news regarding the recent update is we gotta wait so long for the production cars to come! I wish the testing process was quick like the R142/142A and R143s were, pilot trains for those orders only tested for a few months and then the other cars started rolling in, oh well.
  16. PATH does not have fan trips with trains retired from revenue service like NYCT does. The only way to see older PATH cars is at those museums you mentioned, no idea if they allow visitors to view the interiors.
  17. It's annoying af that mymta and the app used to purchase LIRR/MN tickets are separate apps. Then there's a third app called train time.
  18. I'm surprised to find out that buses have event recorders. I wonder when they started putting those in buses. Not surprised the bus held up well, I remember an BMW crashed into an Hybrid on the B46 and the BMW was totaled while the hybrid had very little damage. Glad everyone is OK.
  19. They are not getting an find system. They recently got refitted with new strip maps with both the and lines on them. Every 143 I been on has their maps so maybe they fell off in some cars.
  20. Haha at some CAT C13 MCIs getting scrapped before all the Detroit 60s are gone. Love those old school MCI's! Speaking of old MCI, I seen one this evening on the SIM1C.
  21. Rode the 107X today, felt weird riding an transit bus on an extended highway run. Most MTA or NJT routes I ride with long highway runs usually use OTR coaches. Bus wasn't nerfed ethier, it was able to keep up with highway traffic. Next up is the 76 or ride an XD60 on a Fairview route, curious as to how those buses handle the incline on 495.
  22. The Poughkeepsie Expresses takes two hours to travel between GCT and POU. I remember when they use to stop at Matble Hill and Yonkers a little over a decade ago. IIRC the run time between GCT and POU was an hour and a half back then. The run time got longer over the years for whatever reason. Considering the long run time, express trains should continue to skip Marble Hill and Yonkers IMO.
  23. At first I thought @Lawrence St was talking about an NJT bus and simply posted in the wrong subforum. But most likely hes talking about an MTA bus and made an typo.
  24. As anyone seen the XN60s on the N6X recently? Been thinking of catching another ride on one.
  25. I JUST missed an OG hybrid on the B103, there's serveral on the line now. Hope these Orions at SC is permanent, love the C40s but diversity is always nice.
