  1. The early to mid 70s was peak time period for foaming for the subway. Pre war cars ( the arnies) the SMEEs and the R44 and few years later R46s were all running in the system at the same time. I wasn't around for the 70s but for time I was alive for (and remember) the late 90s and the transition period from 60FT SMEEs to R160s was the best. That period was fun cause the B div SMEEs got bounced around to various lines before they got tossed in the Atlantic.
  2. The Orion hybrids and 3G are the only foam worthy loans IMO. The other loans are basically the same bus as the artics but in 40 footer form.
  3. A bunch of artic routes is running 40 footers right now, B1, 44 SBS, BX41 SBS, M101 are just the ones I checked.
  4. Yes, but MTV has far more NGs than they do OGs. I think MTV only has 37 OGs compared to like 150+ NGs. Anyway, they are playing celebrity PSAs on the buses again. Some Italian guy starts his PSA saying "you talking to me?!?" Can't figure out who that is..
  5. 5304 (an artic) is on the M100 if anybody is interested. Was lucky enough to get an OG hybrid on the M5, nice!
  6. Your post reminds me, some of the redbirds had signs saying they had cameras on them, I was at the RFW of the 2 train at Wakefield and when the T/O went inside the cab he made an remark about it "I don't see no cameras, maybe they took them out and put em in the new trains (R142)". IDK what ever came of that project.
  7. There will rappers and other celebrities doing new covid PSAs on the subway soon. IDK if there's an article about this but go to Jadakiss and Camron IG Pages and it's on there. I don't have IG and you can't lurk that site unless you have an account so I can't post the clips.
  8. On the news the TA now is trying to say the benches were removed for "cleaning"..
  9. You can figure this out yourself by following the weather forecast + checking the bus time app whenever there's snowfall.
  10. Years ago their was a plan to send 46s to SIR but they would have to refit the R46s with cab signaling to run on SIR. It wasn't done cause it wasn't worth the cost. In the long run it's best to just give SIR brand new cars.
  11. The NGs aged well, I'm glad MTA went with Orion rather than say NABI. Those NJT NABIs are beat to a plup, well the ones at been on at least.
  12. An B6 bus was in an minor accident at that intersection, EMS was there.. https://citizen.com/-MT82W5Z-OILAVIDv3LQ
  13. Some of those newer MCIs might break down more often than the 02 units. Hence them being retired first.
  14. Found this pic on reddit, IDK how common it is but its my first time seeing it: Subway tracks on the Brooklyn Bridge...
  15. If you're travelling off peak, the X10 was replaced by the SIM3C, it runs every 30 minutes off peak on weekdays. Link to schedule: https://new.mta.info/document/14036
  16. 40 footers on artic routes might happen again on Sunday as the city is expected to get 3 to 6 inches of snow.
  17. ALL of the stores on the LIRR concourse is now closed, all of them. I'm bummed about this cause I liked to eat at the Charley's there, get popcorn from the popcorn stands and wanted to try Rose Pizza. All of that is gone now. Probably will be replaced with snobby high end stores like at GCT, I preferred Penn over GCT for the store selection alone. LIRR riders are going to miss grabbing a bear before hopping on the train home, I wonder if LIRR riders will utilize the high end stores that replaced the old stores...
  18. I rode the SIM8 via NJ last year and there was an big traffic jam at the Lincoln Tunnel Entrance cause an 18 wheeler got stuck in the tunnel, lt looked like PA has an special truck just for pulling out stuck 18 wheelers. Anyway, today there was an mix of buses with chains and buses that did not have them.. Its kind of fun riding the buses equipped with chains lol
  19. I've been on railfan forums since when the R38s were still in service and this is the first time I'm hearing about this. I don't think railfans had access to people who make those type of decisions back then. Even today, only thing you can do is ask the NYCT Subway Twitter account which probably has a intern tweeting/answering tweets, not people who decide what subway gets saved or scrapped. These redbirds will probably stay in work service until the R62/A's retire, then they could use the stainless steels bodies of the 62s as rider cars, de icers, etc.
  20. THIS is why they suspend outdoor subway service in major snow storms..
  21. I wonder if anybody went fanning today, from watching the news its BAD out there. Even Columbus Circle is crazy with the low visibility, wind, etc. The plows can't keep up! You know it's bad when even the streets in Columbus circle is covered in snow. Crazy that the entire PATH system got suspended along with LIRR/MN at 3PM but NYC bus service is still running... for now.
