  1. There's FOUR Bensonhurst bound B6 Limited bunched at that Rockaway Parkway station right now. Now Five. Never seen so many B6s of the same variation bunched up like that before. Been around the B6 my entire life.
  2. Theres an MCI on the off peak SIM33C, nice sight considering I hardly seen them run off peak since SI got those new 2021 Prevosts.
  3. Even though the is 100% R160, there's still at least one set of R160s on the today.
  4. IDK why the OG fans ignore that fact that their still plentiful in Queens, and you'd get a better ride in Queens vs Manthattan, especially on the Q35 or Woodhaven Blvd local routes. I don't think the Old Gens are that bad for their age, I notice whenever a transit vehicle is on the verge of retirement, fanners always exaggerate how bad their condition is😄 With that being said, I hope the MTA can get some free buses out of this like they did with the NG order and the R179s on the rail side. Some freebies to replace the buses lost in the Ida flood at CAS.
  5. Even if NICE had great service, certain people still aren't going to ride it. In Long Island the bus is looked at as a service for low income people, Bee Line is a great bus system but it has that same stigma as NICE/SCT as people who have a decent income aren't going to ride it. Even in the city the bus has that stigma with certain people. For example one of my teachers in High School made a joke to one of the students who talking about the B6 bus, he said "Do I look like I ride a B6 Bus?" This was a Black Man who grew up in Far Rockaway! lol. He was a great teacher. As someone who frequents both LIRR/Metro North and their suburban bus counterparts, the demographics between the two are vastly different.
  6. This weekend due to track work in one of the LIRR East River tubes, eastbound LIRR trains are going via the Amtrak tube to get into Queens. 99 percent of the time LIRR trains traveling to and from NYP use the 2 northernmost tubes, even during rush hour. Theres four tracks between NYP and Queens.
  7. Theres an SBS wrapped XD40 on the B42 today, farebox was taped over so I got an free ride. I guess with Nova hybrids sidelined + subway shuttles this weekend things are a little tight in regards to making service.
  8. Queens still has a lot of OGs, just catch a ride on the Q22 or Q35 you'd have like an 95 percent chance of catching an OG.
  9. I'd imagine by the time the NGs are getting scrapped in the masses the LFS hybrids teething issues will be sorted out by then so their will be no need to send NGs from other depots to MTV. I don't think we have Grumman buses in the 80s situation here. I will admit I've been following new bus orders since the NGs came in and this is the first time I seen them sideline an entire fleet after the buses started service.
  10. WTF! I've been looking into a bus to take to Philly from NYC and thought Flixbus was an low budget, Chinatown bus type service. I didn't know they had $$$ like that to acquire Greyhound.
  11. Looks like I decided to fan QV routes a day too early, they sent a bunch of NGs back to MTV cause of the Nova hybrids being all OOS. Also yesterday I rode the Q110 for the first time, I've been on every route that parallels the Q110 multiple times over but never been on the Q110 until yesterday.
  12. QV has one of the most diverse local fleets yet everytime I ride their routes I always get a damn NG, an LFS or OG would be nice every now and then lol
  13. There's two R179 trains laid up at 135th street. First time ever seeing weekend layups at 135th.
  14. Yes, as an side effect of a medication I take, I dream damn near nightly. The nightmares usually involve elevated stations, as I always felt uneasy on Elevated stations, but I'm fine when I'm on the train itself. But I have dreams/nightmares about all kinds of things, not just transit. Most of them I can't remember, but one that sticks out the most is the Williamsburg bridge was converted to a water slide OVER the east river rather than into it.
  15. I don't know. The C40s are getting up there in age, maybe the TA is considering them as an replacement for the C40s? Just *speculation* on my part. The oldest C40s are 10 years old, then again to me it seems like they can make it to 15 years with ease. Most of them don't even rattle which is amazing for a NYC bus that old, well the SC units don't rattle at least. Ethier way a Gillig on TA property is VERY interesting.
  16. First time MTA Bus sent NYCT an MCI in well over a decade and it caught me off guard, was totally unexpected... unexpected transit vehicle sightings is a rarity these days. 99 percent of the time an unexpected transit move is posted somewhere on the internet before it happens.
  17. Most of my Redbird rides back then were underground, so I never experienced leaking on those cars. I remember the door circuit failures cause some people died due to the draggings, and made the news, RIP to them. Your latter two points, been posting on NYC based railfan forums for years and never heard of these things until this post, nor ever experienced this IRL. You might be exaggerating those last two points. I was on an R42 that the heater caught fire in 2005... cars ran for 15 more years after that. Train wasn't even delayed and continued on its route like nothing happened lol. I still don't think IRT riders had it any worse than N line riders right before each line received their NTT's. I'm sure R40 Slants and 42s leaked as well. R40 Slants were held together by bondo tape towards the end. Only real thing that was worst w/ the redbirds vs the B div SMEEs was the door circuit issues, the cars were about equal otherwise. Funny how the current day R46s have none of the issues you mentioned and people act like they are the worst thing ever.
  18. I JUST saw this bus on 6th Ave!!!! Came to this thread to post this lmao
  19. Late 90s, early 2000s rider here, and no I don't understand. Riding the Redbirds was like riding an IRT sized R32/38. The passenger experience between the IRT Redbirds and R32 - R42 was about the same. I could understand if you said prior to GOH as all SMEEs were beat to a plup and raggedy prior to overhaul.
  20. This morning I walk to the B42 stop, see a whole bunch of people waiting there I think good, the bus is about to come. Still, had to wait a bit and when a bus does show up, it's fairly empty with no standees and its signed up as Next Bus Please and flags us! Made me late SMH, this is why I hate commuting on buses, don't mind riding them for fanning purposes but in NYC it's a garbage mode of transport full of issues. The subway line closest to my house is the best subway line in the system (the line ) makes the bus seem even worse in comparison.
  21. The other day I fanned the N54 or 55? from Hempstead to Sunrise Mall, cool route but man Sunrise Mall is a ghost town. Mall was practically empty, yea it was an weekday but I went Roosevelt Field during the week before and it was fairly busy. Sunrise Mall food court only has two restaurants... I'm not joking it really only has two restaurants. Walked around the mall to kill time as I had planned to take the N71 back to Hempstead... Which I did. Sunrise mall bus terminal was also a ghost town.
  22. Do those 2020-2021 MCIs at Oradell run in service on their routes or they are there for some other reason? Reason I ask is I only see 20 year old D4000s on Oradell routes whenever I'm in Jersey or ride routes out of that depot. Isn't that the garage that can't fit 45 FT MCIs? The roster on here says that theres 20-21 MCIs assigned there.... Ops and riders of Oradell routes really got the short end of the stick, seems every other NJT garage with MCIs have fairly new units as the bulk of the fleet whereas Oradell fleet is mostly made up of 20 year old buses. I like those mini MCI with the DD60 so their old age don't bother me but I'd imagine daily riders of their routes feel different.
