  1. The N/W shared the Astoria terminal for a few years before the R160s were introduced. They made it work. They can handle the terminal being 100% R68/68A if necessary. Why would they need to run tests for R160s on the when they ran on that line for like a decade without issue?
  2. Today on the B103 I seen an ad promoting job openings for the Norfolk, Virginia PD, wtf! That's like an 7 hour drive from NYC.
  3. Second time in the past couple of days where I JUST I missed an massive CBTC failure on the line
  4. It never had a mixed fleet in the last 30 years or so, but it did prior to the R68s coming there. IIRC the had R32s & R42s at the same time with some R40Ms. It also had Arnines and R32s at the same time.
  5. All of the IRT yards except for the have one car class and things are just fine. Concourse and Jamaica in the B div have one car class, no problems. Regularly, one set from both the SMEE and NTT car classes get removed from service due to mechanical problems and only that ONE consist gets shopped, not the entire fleet. Every yard has spare trains to replace an defective train.
  6. If the MTA doesn't have the money for the R62/A replacements, they would simply keep the wayside signals and keep the R62s they way they are now. Rebuilding the 62s with digital signage and to be CBTC compatible would cost as much as buying an brand new train.
  7. Source? I highly doubt this as the TA already has car class in the works to replace the 62/62A (R262)
  8. This evening at Rockaway Parkway some dude jumped down to the roadbed to take a leak. People are walking by like nothing's happening while this dude is on tracks relieving himself. He was there for a few minutes and once he was finished he climbed back onto the platform. First time I seen someone jump onto the actual tracks to take a leak. There was no delay in service.
  9. I've fanned the 11 and 72 the past couple days and man those potholes in Newark are rough, a lot of BAM and BOOM when those NABIs traveled over them. Road quality got better outside of Newark though. Also Bloomfield is an underrated city, lots of nice houses and you could smell the trees and freshly mowed lawns inside the bus as it traveled though that city. I didn't expect the 72 to be such an nice ride (I rode it from Newark to Paterson). The 11 wasn't too bad either.
  10. Wow, since 2001? I never rode a train though New London so I only seen the station though photos and videos which showed the low level platforms on the curve, but I never noticed the high level platform there.
  11. So M8's debuted on the Shore Line East service today...? https://portal.ct.gov/Office-of-the-Governor/News/Press-Releases/2022/05-2022/Governor-Lamont-Announces-That-M8-Electric-Trains-Have-Arrived-on-Shore-Line-East Anybody got pics or vids of this? Also New London Amtrak station is a low level platform so how do people board M8s there?
  12. LOL, one of those railfans sound like an chihuahua barking. Railfans can be strange creatures sometimes, remember one streaming like an lunatic over an train rerouted over CPW.
  13. R142 on the does nothing for me as you can ride R142s on 98 percent of the line via the and (late nights). Riding bombardier R142s on the Pelham line in the BX or R142/142A's on the line north of 96th street is foam worthy to me
  14. In recent months, people smoking on the subway seems to be an common thing. I see it regularly. Don't beat yourself up over not reporting it as most riders ignore it or move to a different part of the car.
  15. A man was shot and killed on the train today just before noon. Shooting on Sunday morning? Crazy...
  16. Today a guy was begging for money on the train to buy..... weed. At least he was honest
  17. There have been priced tickets for the summer fan trips since forever. I remember buying an ticket for an TOMC trip in 2008. There was the old March of Dimes fan trips which you also had to buy an ticket to ride. Never been on an March of Dimes trips but I seen photos from them and they was awesome.
  18. Metro North is cross honoring (free) this weekend at Woodlawn, 125th, Grand Central and Willams Bridge due to an train G.O where it's not running between Manthattan and The Bronx. Just show the C/R your Metrocard or OMNY card for free travel. Fordham, Tremont and Melrose is NOT apart of the cross honoring.
  19. Summer fan trips are back using the museum cars, Low V for the one IRT trip, and the Arnines for the two B div trips https://www.nytransitmuseum.org/nostalgiarides/
  20. SIR short on equipment and the SI 211s are several years away. Hopefully the SMS the SI R44 they are currently getting will help with their reliability. As someone who likes the old stuff more than the NTT I'm happy the SIR R44 will hit the 50 years of service mark. Second St Louis Car co car class to do so (with the other being the R42s) . The SIR R44 been around longer than the cars they replaced. Reliability aside those SIR R44s are rockets and can outrun all of the remaining SMEEs in the subway. They are an fun ride.
  21. I fanned the Q4 today, the houses and neighborhoods along Linden Blvd are quite nice. I did an Q84 - Q4 round trip (their east end terminals are within walking distance of one another) a few years ago and I don't remember it being THAT nice lol. That neighborhood is a hidden gem of NYC. I got caught in the rain and took an Q77 back to the subway, those XD40s already leak in the rain even though they are not that old, WTF New Flyer. The leak was quite far from the rear air vent so I don't think that was the cause of the leak.
  22. Avoid the E/F/R on Queens Blvd this weekend, trains are basically crawling from 75th Ave to Roosevelt Ave.
  23. ^^^ I had a feeling they would just send Hempstead/Far Rock trains to Grand Central but now I see its confirmed. West Hempstead getting an upgrade from an shuttle to an all day Brooklyn line is really interesting as I thought Brooklyn wouldn't have no thru service to LI anymore once ESA access opened. Happy to see at least SOME thru service to LI will be kept. I wonder if they will take out some of the tracks at Flatbush Ave since I doubt all 5 or 6 tracks at Flatbush would be needed since those Babylon/Main Line rush hour specials from Brooklyn would most likely be cut.
  24. As a regular rider of ENY routes, it feels like I get XDE40 more often than the NGs even though ENY has more Orion hybrids than New Flyer hybrids. Also those XDE40s have far more leg room in the last two rows compared to their diesel counterparts. Still can't wait for ENY and FLA to get their new batch of XD40s. What a great time to be an bus rider in Brooklyn
