  1. Just seen on buschat NJT put out an RFP for 500 new 40FT Diesel buses. Can't wait till the new 40 footers start rolling in, hopefully they are ethier New Flyer or Nova.
  2. One reason there's no NYC - Philly bus route because they had a train do that service from Penn to 30th Street in Philly, service was called the "Clocker" and operated in the early 2000s but was discontinued for whatever reason. EDIT: Clocker was an Amtrak service but accepted NJT monthly tickets and used an NJT locomotive to haul Amtrak coaches rather than NJT coaches. Here's the wikipedia page https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clocker_(train) The wikipedia page is kinda vague but there's other sources out there discussing this more in depth. Also there's like a gazillion bus options between Philly and NYC with NJT Zones NJT wouldn't be price competitive with the Greyhound/Peter Pan/Megabuses of the world.
  3. In the Atlanta Subway, some of the cars have the same propulsion as the R142A/188 and R143s.
  4. Your second paragraph, are you trying to imply the R211s propulsion is outdated? I recall watching one of DJ Hammers YouTube vids of the R211 testing and remember the description said they had to install updated mechanical gear on the cars.
  5. Why does the KB and GH run 40 footers on artic routes during the summer? Is it because a shortage of artics or interlining? I rode an Nova Hybrid on the BX9 today and the bus was filled to capacity. Bus was crush loaded while climbing that steep hill on Kingsbridge road. It was an slow climb but the bus made it lol.
  6. 17 to 24 minutes (depending on the train schedule) is the norm for LIRR between Penn and Jamaica. That LIRR engineer wasn't special lol, most if not all LIRR engineers can operate a train between those two points in that time period.
  7. Orion NG 4096 has "Zero Emissions" as its destination sign right now. First time seeing that on an non all electric bus. And I've seen black smoke coming out of the NGs exhaust plenty of times over the years, so I don't think that sign is accurate. Even hybrid buses that use diesel fuel that are working properly still have some emissions? And yes I know those NGs puffing out black smoke had an defect and is not the norm.
  8. Yukon and CAS had a mix of Orion V and NG hybrids before the 3rd Gen and Nova LFS came to SI
  9. That is one of the Redbirds saved for the Transit Museum. Serveral pairs of Redbird cars were saved for the museum and some of them were repainted into schemes they had prior to GOH. That car in the photo is actually painted Sliver (with a blue stripe not seen in the photo) but the paint faded a bit.
  10. This redbird at Flatbush disscussion reminds me of the dual via 7th Ave/ via Lex roll on the Redbirds rollsigns. I was told these rollsigns were put in due to some kind of Lenox reconstruction project in the late 90s.
  11. I keep forgetting to put these two dollar coins I have on my metrocard so I can take an Prevost BM2 into the city one of these days. I would imagine Spring Creek has enough Prevosts to not use the MCIs at all on Saturdays. I have yet to ride an SC Prevost even though it's my "home" depot and my favorite MTA Bus garage. I was waiting for the B103 a couple days ago and an Prevost BM2 showed up first, couldn't ride cause I didn't have enough pay per ride money on my card but it was nice to look at.
  12. Surprised the B6 is top two in Brooklyn considering how much ridership the B103 stole from the B6 on the eastern end of the route.
  13. Good God these overly dramatic posts about R46s, yes they have issues but it's not the end of the world. The R32s are retired and not coming back, get over it already! How many times is y'all gonna to complain about the damn spare factor, I ride B div routes all the time and trains on the B div routes are not dropping OOS left and right. If you believe these posters you would think the subway is late 70s/early 80s levels of bad which is far from the truth. Which is crazy is yall is grown men acting like this, I could understand if yall was teenagers but adult posters are seriously suggesting service cuts so their line can have R160s again, ridiculous. Service cuts are not necessary. I could understand complaining about poor service, large gap in services, etc. But this spare factor/car shortage complaints is annoying af, yall not the CI yard dispatcher so why do yall even care so about this???
  14. I'm loving the fact that the vast majority of the R68/68A fleet is assigned to the Brighton line routes. My favorite 75FT fleet on my favorite B div trunk line
  15. The new app is online! It's called "MTA TrainTime" search that into Google play store and it will update into the new app.
  16. Safety reasons I'd imagine. S/B Q trains can speed from DeKalb junction to the station (I've been on trains that went though this stretch at speed) . S/B D trains MIGHT get sped up from the junction until it has to slow down for the curve south of DeKalb station. As for the bridge, going downhill, I'd imagine it would be similar to the train between Atlantic and Shutter Ave, downhill it will be somewhat slow.
  17. Yeah, but that's in Long Island and the LIRR, not NYC and not NYCT. Unless.... the Babylon Branch had RR crossings in Queens? Genuinely asking, I always thought the Babylon Branch RR crossing elimination project was only between Valley Stream and Babylon.
  18. I'm not on Facebook lol but I always see it being referenced on here. I just assume that's where most NYC transit fan disscussion takes place these days. This hobby seems more popular than ever, all these buffs gotta be discussing transit somewhere
  19. I must be the only one who still feels safe on the subway, the subway was dangerous as recently as the late 90s. High School students getting jumped, innocent ppl getting stabbed on purpose, entire subway cars getting robbed, it was horrible back then. Current day subway don't seem as nearly as bad. I remember my 6th Grade teacher who was like 24 years old (this was in 2004) at the time said us kids were lucky with an capital L to be growing up at the time we were cause of the crime in NYC years prior.
  20. O/T chat was a mess but the two on topic boards were fairly civil in recent years. Little to no drama of reefed threads compared to years past. Not to sound morbid but I wonder if the subchat webmaster is even still alive, maybe he passed on and that's why the site's down.. no one to maintain it. That site lost a lot of members due to death (boomers and older is the average demographic of that forum) In 2022 subchat is pretty irrelevant in the NYC railfan scene, Facebook seems to overtaken it in popularity. Would be a shame if the forum is gone for good. Lots of great historical disscussion and such.
  21. IND is FUBAR right now due to a problem at Canal street
  22. If they barely do anything then why did the R179 MDBF shoot up? R179 MDBF is in the 240, 000s only the R160 MDBF is higher in the B div. If there was a supposed car shortage every car class in the B div would be suffering. The R46s are old and NYCT is probably doing the bare minimum to keep them running since their replacements will be arriving in the near future.
  23. The A/C on the Pikin assigned R46s has been cooler than usual this summer so far, surprisingly. Years past I didn't like riding R46s during the summer cause of the weak A/C. Outside of the A/C perfomance even the Pikin 46s are a little rough around the edges these days. Maybe the R179s get priority for shop time and the R46s are an afterthought due to being close to retirement, just speculation on my part.
  24. MTA plans to merge the ETIX app, LIRR & MNR traintime apps into one app sometime this month. So much better than having three separate apps.
