I can't believe I'm still waiting, pending ticket, since 2015, and my list number is 107X...so frustrating...
if the pending ticket is 4 pts or less just plead guilty and pay the fine...move on.

If I called ms. Chestnut, would she say what list number they are up to? Since the automated number isn't reflecting what everyone is saying they are up to lol

automated system is delayed, don't rely on it...people's posts in here are a great measure. You can call her and ask if you want.

You can not switch Queens depots every year, that is incorrect. You get one transfer after arriving in Queens and only one transfer. For instance say if you wanted Queens Village but it wasn't available, you can go to Casey Stengel or Jamaica until QV is available. Once QV is available, if you accept it that's it your in QV the rest of your career. Just used QV as an example, same goes for the others. Staten Island I am not sure about.
I see. Thought Queens operated the same as Staten. Well on Staten we have a general pick every Dec, can change depots on the island at that time.

Which is better OA or TA? I'm from Staten Island, born and raised so I know the routes so I'm comfortable there but if OA is a better option I would be open to working elsewhere.
TA is best and you definitely want to be on Staten Island. The other boroughs are a headache, u will deal with headaches here of course but compared to the other boroughs, SI is the country club. You move up seniority wise a lot faster here as well.
When I said Day 1, I wasn't referring to the 10-day training, it was in the context of my reply to Cory1018's question about the overrall process. But Yes Monday is commonly referred to as day 0 and Tuesday is the actual Day 1 of the 10-day training. Thank you for pointing that out.
As far as the transfer issue, Yes operators hired from exam 4600 are TA and therefor can work at any depot that the TA chooses to put us into but we cannot pick into Staten Island or Queens ourselves. Staten Island and Queens depots do not have General Picks, that's an OA thing. We can request a transfer to a Staten Island or Queens depot but that is a one-way ticket for life (as a bus operator anyway). The pick you are referring to that occurs on GI day is not a general pick but rather simply a pick of available places they need operators at that time. When general pick day comes around in December that depot you picked on GI day may or may not be an available option. Also it may not be evident to you on the surface that they have a serious need for operators because many of the recent classes where just simply placed into SI but many do not wish to stay there because they live too far away and paying $250 a month for the bridge toll is not sustainable. I have heard of entire classes of new operators forced to go to SI in recent months. I know for a fact the entire class before mine in August was sent there without a choice. Of course things change rapidly in the MTA so its certainly possible that "serious need" doesn't apply today but I highly doubt it based on what I know.
SI and Queens have there own General pick allowing people to switch depots within their boro once a year.

What a day today. Enjoying the empty buses as I do my trips. Good luck to everyone this week trying to qualify. Put your A+ game and execute what you've been thought. Be a Operator not a driver and Good luck. Hopefully I'll see some of you if you pick in Flatbush

Starting class on March 20th. Since I'm from State Island, my preference is Castleton or any other Depot in Staten Island. If none of those available, what are the other depots in Brooklyn closer to Staten Island?
Jackie Gleason depot closest to island and Ulmer Park.

Some people said that when you're on probation its not good to do over time? I don't understand that.
Also when you guys are training and you go do the bus final or practical, are you allowed to call out what you're doing? Like when you do the cdl road test. Example: potential hazard, proceeding with caution...looking to my right mirror and left clear to pass. Stuff like that?

yeah not a good idea to do OT in the first year. OT just means more time in the seat to get in an accident. No need to get your probation extended.
and yeah your expected to call things out.

I received my letter today for October 31. I will pass the opportunity for now until I have my full CDL. My list number in the 1,400 range.
why? everyone getting hired from this test will pass you in seniority. Last test (2613) people passed up like you want too and it cost them big $, top pay went from 3 yrs to 5 yrs as a new contract was settled. Same situation is approaching with contract expiring Jan 2017. Although it should take them time to get a new one but you never really know. You know the MTA is going to push to get rid of 25/55 pension and make it 30/62. Lots of things can go wrong. I was in a tough spot when I was hired but someone told me do whatever is necc to get in and I did. Have friends who waited and they got stuck with the 5 yr top pay which ended up being 6 months after me getting hired.

Thanks for the replies..for anyone on the job right now if you dont mind me asking, how is the job overall? Do you ladies and gentlemen like it? Hows the pay? Able to afford a home etc etc? Would appreciate an overall glance at the profession and get a better idea of whats it like to be a bus operator!!
Thanks! !!
I'm quickly approaching year and half on the job from 2613 exam.
I like the job, it is cool. It's what you make of it. Some hated it and quit pretty quickly. It's like any other job.
You won't afford a home in NYC at the beginning pay rate. At top pay its possible, depends if you have a 2 income family. Being single and on this job would make it harder - unless you live in a bad area of the 5 boros where the house might be cheaper (240K).
A lot of guys move upstate or NJ/PA. I'm personally shooting for PA, much more bang for your buck.
Quick question, what happens if you are not originally from NYC, get hired by MTA but dont know the streets of NYC too well? I know your given a route to drive and that route sometimes changes...im sure youd need decent knowledge of the streets before hand? Have there ever been csses of MTA bus operators getting lost out there? That would be a disaster id assume....
you go through line training with a senior operator and learn all the routes when you pass training and pick into your depot. You should get turn sheets as well. I just had a customer who knew the route show me lol

According to a recent post in the Exam 2613 thread, they are up to 24**, so between 2400 - 2499 out of approximately 3600 candidates, so about 67% of the way done.
Let's see what happens in March 2015 where they are at, that will give us a better picture. My thinking is that they should be finishing up with those who initially deferred and those who are clarifying medical/legal issues. Further, I believe that they'll run through the remainder of the candidates quite quickly, especially if there are a high number of retirees and those who moved on to other city/state jobs or jobs within the .
I would think the opposite that the pace would slow down. They have hired a ton of drivers over the last year, probably close to 1000. IMO after 2613 is done 4613 will take awhile like the prior TA test before 2613. I hope that is not the case though as my brother took 4600. These old timers on the job just do not want to retire !! No incentive too, their runs are awesome..work 2 hours..off for 5 hours..work for 2 hours..who has it better than them? Some move up ranks to become dispatcher but they dont really leave for other city/state jobs as they already have there seniority and pay rate built up, new job would mean starting all over.
